Touring New Zealand by coach is a great option. You get to see and experience the best the country has to offer and someone else gets to do the organising, driving and ensuring everything goes to plan.
There are 3 main types or styles of coach touring available in New Zealand. These are independent touring, escorted touring and small groups.
1) Independent coach touring
Independent coach tours are the most popular way of exploring New Zealand by coach. As the name suggests they offer flexibility and independence to design a tour that suits you.
Our range of independent tours use a combination of tour operators such as Great Sights, Newmans, Real Journeys, Bush and Beach plus many more to create a seamless experience.
We can combine and create these operators with our vast selection of accommodation and activities to create a coach tour that fits you perfectly.
Best of all, these tours can be created to depart on any day.
On this type of tour you won't travel with the same group throughout. Other travellers will be on their own independent tour and will have a different itinerary to you.
2) Escorted coach touring
Escorted coach tours are operated by companies such as AAT Kings, Grand Pacific Tours and Kirra Coach Tours.
These tours have set or specific dates on which they start and finish. (You can of course add more days at the start or end of these tours.) Itineraries are set and inclusions vary but there are always lots of opportunities to add or participate in optional activities.
Usually you travel with the same group throughout (anything up to 48 passengers) and in most cases you have the same driver/guide or coach captain. Some companies also have a tour director on board.
Items such as luggage porterage and check in at hotel is all taken care of for you meaning all you have to do is sit back, relax and enjoy the scenery and hospitality.
3) Small group touring
This style of touring is effectively the same style as the escorted tours but with smaller vehicles and usually the maximum number of guests is between 12 and 20.
Small group tours also tend to visit a little more off the beaten path locations or may have specific interests such as hiking or cycling. Accommodations can also be a little different as smaller boutique properties can accommodate the smaller groups.
No matter which touring style you choose you can still be guaranteed to see the best New Zealand has to offer and relax in the confidence that everything is taken care of.
