Settle into your accommodation and be ready for the 6pm pre-tour meeting. It is here you will be introduced to your tour manager and meet your new roadtrip friends.

Before heading to lake Tekapo mid-morning spend some time exploring downtown Christchurch.  Your guide can show you the cool and creative ways the city has rebuilt after the life-changing 2011 earthquake. 
As you head into Lake Tekapo you'll be greeted by it's beautiful turquoise blue waters and shown a panoramic views of the Mackenzie basin from Mount John. Dinner tonight is included in your tour.

Day 3: Ohau to Queenstown

Notice the landscape change as you leave the tussock lands of the Mackenzie country and head further south through to the dramatic peaks of the Southern Alps.  There is plenty of spectacular photo opportunities on this journey including the Kawarau Gorge, home of the bungy! Give it a go or enjoy watching the adrenalin seekers jump. Finally reach Queenstown, home for the next two nights, with plenty to see and do you will be spoilt for choice.

For scenery lovers, Milford Sound is a must-see. Whether you fly or drive, the scenery en route is as awesome as the destination. Once on the Sound, you sail beneath thundering waterfalls when you see the towering cliff faces you’ll understand why we call it the “8th Wonder of the World”.

After a morning in Queenstown today it is time to relax in Wanaka.  The journey time is only one hour but broken down with a trip through Arrowtown. This charming town was home to settlers during the gold rush and has heaps of character. Arriving in Wanaka you are blessed with the visual of towering peaks popping up from glacial blue lake waters. On arrival your guide will take you to see the world famous "That Wanaka Tree".

Wanaka

Spend the day in Wanaka enjoying the outdoors, bike riding, on a boat trip or on one of the wonderful walks.  If you just want to relax you can do that too.  Tonight you will mix things up by heading to the stunning Criffel Station for a night of glamping (aka glamorous camping)! Think fancy canvas tents with decadently comfortable beds and the great outdoors right on your doorstep. The views from Criffel are sublime, to get the real experience, you’ll have to see it for yourself!

Many Haka guides rate today's journey as their most favourite.  You leave the alpine lakes and head along the coast until finally travelling through the rainforest until you arrive into Franz Josef, a UNESCO World Heritage area. 
Along with this journey, your guide will stop and let you enjoy some fantastic short walks and photo stops. Between September and December, it's whitebait season, a small fish fried up with eggs and served on toast, a delicacy not to be missed.

A day to enjoy Franz Josef

With Aoraki/Mount Cook (New Zealand’s highest mountain) twinkling behind the glaciers, Franz Josef is about as beautiful a setting as you can find in New Zealand. Te Wahi Pounamu (which means ‘the place of greenstone’ in Māori) is the name given to this part of the West Coast because of the abundance of pounamu (greenstone/jade) to be found here. Included in your tour today is a special opportunity to carve your very own pounamu pendant at a local gallery.
There are heaps of ways to enjoy Franz Josef Glacier; weather permitting, to get up onto the bluest ice you can take a scenic helicopter flight and hike onto the glaciers. Maybe you’d prefer to kayak on a glacial lake, or just relax in the steamy hot springs down below. As well as the awesome glacier activities, you could also try out quad biking, horseback riding and even a bit of group karaoke!

Day 9: Franz Josef to Christchurch

After breakfast head further along the beautiful west coast, through rugged primaeval landscapes and along the ocean roads. Stopping in Hokitika for a break and visit to the greenstone factory.  Time permitting there may also be the chance to visit the National Kiwi Centre where you are guaranteed to see the Kiwi, New Zealand's national bird. The final leg of the journey is on the TranzAlpine Train from Greymouth.  This train ride is world famous and traverses through the stunning south island, arriving into Christchurch you will be transferred to your accommodation.

Some free time this morning will give you a chance to see how the city has rebuilt after the life-changing earthquake of 2011. See the innovation and design that has revitalised this fallen city. Once you hit the road you're heading along the coast to the picture perfect Kaikoura. 
Surrounded with nutrient-rich waters Kaikoura boasts extensive varieties of marine creatures.  Sample the delicious crayfish, swim with the dolphins or head out to try and catch a glimpse of the ocean giants, the whales. Included in today's adventures is a trip to see the local seal colony.

Experience a magical swimming encounter with dusky dolphins off the coast Kaikoura. You’ll be taken out in the catamaran and have the chance to swim in the water with these wild mammals in an completely natural environment. The dusky dolphin inhabits the waters around Kaikoura for most of the year - making it one of the only places in the world where dolphins can be encountered every day.

Day 11: Kaikoura to Wellington

Kaikoura to Wellington

Today is a big day with heaps of variety. You say goodbye to the South Island and its dramatic mountains and hello to New Zealand's North Island. As you travel North you will pass through one of the countries famous wine growing regions, Marlborough. The only way to experience this region truly is through your taste buds. So before you reach Picton your guide will take you to do some wine sampling.
Once in Picton, you board the Interislander ferry and head across the Cooks Strait to Wellington. It's a stunning farewell - gliding through the Marlborough Sounds. Arriving into Wellington you may be surprised at how compact this city is but it is full of personality, let your guide know what you're into and they will help you discover its hidden gems.

A day to Explore Wellington

Soak up the atmosphere of vibrant Wellington. Famous for being a bit on the windy side, be prepared to ditch the hairspray and go with the flow. Your guide will introduce you to the city with an orientation tour – including a drive around the bays through central Wellington to the Botanic Gardens and Parliament Buildings.
You will also stop by Weta Studios, most famous for its creative contribution to all things Lord of the Rings. Take an optional tour to see prop-makers in action and learn about the immersive world of filmmaking. Wellington has a feast of cultural attractions and its crowning glory is Te Papa, the national museum of New Zealand. Situated on Wellington’s magnificent waterfront, this internationally acclaimed museum combines leading-edge technology with traditional exhibits to tell the stories of New Zealand’s land and people. The museum is free for all.
If being outdoors is more your thing, head off to Kapiti Island for an optional nature tour. Here you can see endangered birds up close and learn more about New Zealand’s unique flora and fauna.

Today's drive takes you through all kinds of scenery, from rolling hills to the spectacular peaks of the North Island's volcanic plateau - Ruapehu, Ngauruhoe and Tongariro.  You end today within the Tongariro National Park, here for two days you have the opportunity to relax, take on a short walk or enjoy one of the 10 best one-day walks in the world - The Tongariro Crossing.

A day to Explore the Tongariro National Park

Today you have the opportunity to undertake the Tongariro Crossing, considered one of the world’s top 10 best one-day walks, this 19.4km mountain trek boasts emerald green lakes, venting steam, lava flows, craters and rich green bush. Not for the faint-hearted – it’s a challenging day! But every step of the way the views are spectacular. This experience is recommended but if 19.4km is a little too far for you, there are plenty of shorter walks and hikes to enjoy. However you choose to spend today in this UNESCO World Heritage Area, we guarantee you won’t forget it.

SUGGESTED ACTIVITY - Tongariro Crossing

You will be provided with a return shuttle to the famous Tongariro Crossing; New Zealand's best 1 day walk. This walk takes you through the Tongariro National Park and World Heritage Area, dominated by three majestic volcanoes, Mt Tongariro, Mt Ngauruhoe and Mt Ruapehu.  During your 19 km hike, you'll follow a well-formed track leading up the saddle between Mt Ngauruhoe and Mt Tongariro. The landscape on Tongariro is peppered with the different coloured and shaped craters, scoured volcanic rocks, mountain springs, and brightly coloured emerald lakes.

Day 15: Tongariro National Park to Rotorua

Your first stop as you leave the National Park is Taupo, another beautiful lakeside town, like Queenstown this is a great spot to bungy or even skydive and you can arrange these activities with your guide on the day.
Later you head to Rotorua, it doesn't take long to get there but your Haka guide won't rush and will take their time making sure you don't miss anything. Stops may include Huka Falls, or possibly some bubbling mud pools. Included in today's activities is the Redwood Forest Canopy Walk, the ultimate way to get amongst these forest giants.

Today is left free for you to fill with your own adventures. Rotorua has it all, natural beauty, unique geothermal landscapes, iconic Lord of the Rings destinations and heaps of adventure activities. Your guide will help you plan your day and in the evening the group will gather together to be welcomed into a Maori village for an unmissable cultural experience. The evening's activities are included in the tour and showcase a breathtaking haka performance, traditional hangi dinner and the chance to spot kiwi birds.

SUGGESTED ACTIVITY - The Zorb

The Zorb is a home-grown kiwi invention and is another perfect example of adrenaline seeking at its best. Climb into a ZORB globe and slip slide and spin your way down the track. You are sent on your trip down the hill rolling head over heels, heels over head as the ground and sky go whizzing past in a beautiful mosaic of blue and green while your body is subjected to the soft and relaxing feeling of weightlessness and g-force.  If you’re an adventurer, a thrill seeker or a challenger, then this ride is for you!

Rotorua to Raglan via Waitomo

Rotorua is a spectacular whitewater rafting destination, and with expert guidance, it can be experienced by first-timers and pro-paddlers alike. For the ultimate thrill this morning you can raft the highest commercial waterfall drop in the world – the 7-metre Tutea Falls, on the Kaituna River. If that’s not your cup of tea, spend the morning exploring Rotorua’s many attractions such as the ultra-relaxing Polynesian Spa, or perhaps the naturally-impressive Kuirau Park full of steaming, hissing, and boiling geothermal pools.
Once we’ve departed Rotorua, we head to Raglan, via Waitomo – famous for its glow worms. There are a number of ways to enjoy these twinkling cave-dwellers up close from tubing, caving or on an informative walking tour.  For those who prefer to stay above ground, we highly recommend exploring the tree-studded gorges and limestone arches of the nearby Ruakuri Forest Walk; definitely a favourite amongst the Haka guides.
For dinner tonight, once you've arrived in Raglan you’ll have a chance to tuck into New Zealand’s unofficial dish – fish and chips. And what better way to enjoy a tasty meal than on a sunset cruise of Raglan Harbour?

Raglan to Coromandel

Raglan is the home of New Zealand surfing so if it's something you've missed or would like to try this is the day to do it. If you aren't keen on surfing then no worries this little town has plenty of other treasures to offer you. With a variety of bush and coastal walks and cafes, galleries and shops that ooze character and creativity.
The afternoon's journey will take you to the Coromandel peninsula and your Haka guide as always will show you some great sights along the way.

You will have plenty of time to enjoy Whitianga, sample the sandy beaches enjoy a surf lesson or just have some downtime. If the tide allows an excursion to the Hot Water Beach is a must. 
After you've explored this area the coach heads to Auckland, New Zealand's largest city.  From rolling hills to the skyscraping sky tower this final day of travel provides the varying landscapes you've come to expect.
