Settle in to your Auckland accommodation and be ready for a 6pm pre-tour meeting.  Here you will get to know your Tour manager and be introduced to your roadtrip friends.
Afterwards, the evening is yours to enjoy.  It is recommended that you get a good night sleep before tomorrows early start but you may prefer to experience Auckland exciting night-life.

Day 2: Auckland to the Coromandel

This morning join your travel companions for breakfast before heading out of Auckland towards the Coromandel Peninsula a paradise of beautiful beaches and misty rainforests. The drive here is truly spectacular, cameras ready. The coach arrives with plenty of time to be shown around, sample the sandy beaches and even surf with the locals.  If the tide allows a stop will be made at the famous Hot Water Beach.

Day 3: Coromandel to Raglan

Today you travel to the arty surf mecca of Raglan.  You will pass through the North Island's rolling tree-lined hills and valleys stopping at some great sights, including the 55-metre high Bridal Veil Falls. Raglan is a surfers paradise but if that is not your thing there's plenty more this little town has to offer.  With an awesome blend of cafes, bars, surf shops and galleries, the streets here ooze character and creativity. Relax on the beach, or enjoy a variety of bush and coastal scenery on Raglan’s walking trails. Dinner tonight is a kiwi classic "fush and chups" to be enjoyed on an included sunset cruise from Raglan Harbour.

Day 4: Raglan to Rotorua (via Waitomo)

The first stop on today's journey is to the famous glow worm caves of Waitomo.  Enjoy these twinkling cave-dwellers up close on a 4hour caving adventure, tubing or an informative walking tour where you'll learn more about the history, geology and Maori mythology of this unique area. 
For those who'd rather stay above ground, there is the opportunity to visit the tree-studded gorges and limestone arches of the nearby Ruakuri Forest Walk.  After you have had time to explore Waitomo the coach heads to Rotorua where you stay tonight.

Today is left free for you to fill with your own adventures. Rotorua has it all, natural beauty, unique geothermal landscapes, iconic Lord of the Rings destinations and heaps of adventure activities. Your guide will help you plan your day and in the evening the group will gather together to be welcomed into a Maori village for an unmissable cultural experience. The evening's activities are included in the tour and showcase a breathtaking haka performance, traditional hangi dinner and the chance to spot kiwi birds.

Day 6: Rotorua to the Tongariro National Park (via Taupo)

This morning will be spent in Rotorua squeezing in one last activity: perhaps relaxing in the Polynesian Spa or visiting the naturally-impressive Kuirau Park - full of steaming, hissing and boiling geothermal pools.  For the ultimate thrill seekers, you can raft the highest commercial waterfall drop in the world, the 7-meter Tutea Falls on the Kaituna River.

Late morning you will travel the short drive to Taupo, a beautiful lakeside town with a stunning mountain backdrop. On the way, your guide will stop and show you the bubbling mud pools and thundering waterfalls.  After a short time in Taupo, it's back on the road to the final destination of the day the Tongariro National Park.  You will spend two nights here and have the opportunity to enjoy one of the 10 best one-day walks in the world - The Tongariro Crossing.

A day to Explore the Tongariro National Park

Today you have the opportunity to undertake the Tongariro Crossing, considered one of the world’s top 10 best one-day walks, this 19.4km mountain trek boasts emerald green lakes, venting steam, lava flows, craters and rich green bush. Not for the faint-hearted – it’s a challenging day! But every step of the way the views are spectacular. This experience is recommended but if 19.4km is a little too far for you, there are plenty of shorter walks and hikes to enjoy. However you choose to spend today in this UNESCO World Heritage Area, we guarantee you won’t forget it.

This morning leave the National Park behind as you head to the capital city of Wellington. Wellington is a compact city encircled by green, towering hills and situated in a harbour. As you arrive your guide will give you a quick orientation before you all head up Mount Victoria for some of the best views in town.  You can fill the evening with your own exploration and possibly discover why Wellington has such a reputation for good food and craft beer.  Ask your Haka guide to help you find the hidden gems.

Day 9: A day in Wellington

A day to Explore Wellington

Soak up the atmosphere of vibrant Wellington. Famous for being a bit on the windy side, be prepared to ditch the hairspray and go with the flow. Your guide will introduce you to the city with an orientation tour – including a drive around the bays through central Wellington to the Botanic Gardens and Parliament Buildings.
You will also stop by Weta Studios, most famous for its creative contribution to all things Lord of the Rings. Take an optional tour to see prop-makers in action and learn about the immersive world of filmmaking. Wellington has a feast of cultural attractions and its crowning glory is Te Papa, the national museum of New Zealand. Situated on Wellington’s magnificent waterfront, this internationally acclaimed museum combines leading-edge technology with traditional exhibits to tell the stories of New Zealand’s land and people. The museum is free for all.
If being outdoors is more your thing, head off to Kapiti Island for an optional nature tour. Here you can see endangered birds up close and learn more about New Zealand’s unique flora and fauna.

Day 10: Wellington to Kaikoura

This morning you say farewell to the North Island and take the incredibly scenic ferry ride across the Cook Strait. Arriving in Marlborough, an iconic region known for its fantastic wine industry.  You can make the most of this by partaking in the inclusive wine tasting.
After sampling some of New Zealand's best wines journey on to Kaikoura which literally means "to eat crayfish".  The nutrient-rich waters of this area attract a wide variety of marine wildlife including crayfish (of course), seals, dolphins and if you're lucky you'll even spot a whale.

A morning in Kaikoura allows you the chance to swim with dolphins in the wild.  This is a massive highlight for many travellers with pods of up to 300 of these playful creatures hanging out in Kaikoura at one time. If you'd prefer not to get wet and see the ocean giants instead, a boat trip searching for humpbacks, sperm whales or even orca is the optional activity for you. As a tour inclusion, your guide will take you to see the seal colony before you head south to Haka's home the "Garden City", Christchurch.

Before heading to lake Tekapo mid-morning spend some time exploring downtown Christchurch.  Your guide can show you the cool and creative ways the city has rebuilt after the life-changing 2011 earthquake. 
As you head into Lake Tekapo you'll be greeted by it's beautiful turquoise blue waters and shown a panoramic views of the Mackenzie basin from Mount John. Dinner tonight is included in your tour.

After a morning in Queenstown today it is time to relax in Wanaka.  The journey time is only one hour but broken down with a trip through Arrowtown. This charming town was home to settlers during the gold rush and has heaps of character. Arriving in Wanaka you are blessed with the visual of towering peaks popping up from glacial blue lake waters. On arrival your guide will take you to see the world famous "That Wanaka Tree".

Day 16: Relax in Wanaka

Spend the day in Wanaka enjoying the outdoors, bike riding, on a boat trip or on one of the wonderful walks.  If you just want to relax you can do that too.  Tonight you will mix things up by heading to the stunning Criffel Station for a night of glamping (aka glamorous camping)! Think fancy canvas tents with decadently comfortable beds and the great outdoors right on your doorstep. The views from Criffel are sublime, to get the real experience, you’ll have to see it for yourself!

Many Haka guides rate today's journey as their most favourite.  You leave the alpine lakes and head along the coast until finally travelling through the rainforest until you arrive into Franz Josef, a UNESCO World Heritage area. 
Along with this journey, your guide will stop and let you enjoy some fantastic short walks and photo stops. Between September and December, it's whitebait season, a small fish fried up with eggs and served on toast, a delicacy not to be missed.

Day 18: Explore in Franz Josef

A day to enjoy Franz Josef

With Aoraki/Mount Cook (New Zealand’s highest mountain) twinkling behind the glaciers, Franz Josef is about as beautiful a setting as you can find in New Zealand. Te Wahi Pounamu (which means ‘the place of greenstone’ in Māori) is the name given to this part of the West Coast because of the abundance of pounamu (greenstone/jade) to be found here. Included in your tour today is a special opportunity to carve your very own pounamu pendant at a local gallery.
There are heaps of ways to enjoy Franz Josef Glacier; weather permitting, to get up onto the bluest ice you can take a scenic helicopter flight and hike onto the glaciers. Maybe you’d prefer to kayak on a glacial lake, or just relax in the steamy hot springs down below. As well as the awesome glacier activities, you could also try out quad biking, horseback riding and even a bit of group karaoke!

Day 19: Franz Josef to Christchurch

Franz Josef to Christchurch via Hokitika including TranzAlpine Train

After breakfast head further along the beautiful west coast, through rugged primaeval landscapes and along the ocean roads. Stopping in Hokitika for a break and visit to the greenstone factory.  Time permitting there may also be the chance to visit the National Kiwi Centre where you are guaranteed to see the Kiwi, New Zealand's national bird. The final leg of the journey is on the TranzAlpine Train from Greymouth.  This train ride is world famous and traverses through the stunning south island, arriving into Christchurch you will be transferred to your accommodation.
