Te Papa Museum

It’s on basically every must-do list for New Zealand, and it’s not hard to see why. The country’s National Museum boasts a spectacular range of exhibits with displays highlighting Maori culture and New Zealand’s early European settlers, along with areas dedicated to natural history, science, art and much more. With regular exhibitions, the current exhibit entitled, Gallipoli: The Scale of Our War, will be on display until 2019. Te Papa has paired with Weta Workshop to create a collection of astounding sculptures and displays, and an incredible collection of stories depicting New Zealand’s involvement in World War I.

Let your inner film geek out with a trip to Weta Workshop! Famous for their incredible work on The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit Trilogies, along with King Kong, The Adventures of Tintin, Avatar, and much more, a behind-the-scenes tour at Weta Workshop allows you to peak into the world behind the cameras and learn what it takes to create orcs, hobbits, giant apes and big blue aliens. See some of the artists at work and take an up-close look at some of the famous film props!

Wellington Cable Car

Take a ride up to the Botanic Gardens on board the Wellington Cable Car. Running since 1912, this quirky and unique part of Wellington’s history is a great way to spend a relaxing afternoon in the city. Go for a walk through the Botanic Gardens, look through the Cable Car Museum, head up to the Carter Observatory, or simply sit back and enjoy the views over the ocean.

With some of New Zealand’s best bars and restaurants all within easy reach, Wellington truly is a paradise for foodie’s! With pop-up food trucks, outstanding restaurants, quirky bars and a huge range of annual food-themed events, there’s something to satisfy every palate. Sample some local brews at the Garage Project, enjoy an evening of fine dining at Logan Brown, try a delicious array of weird and wonderful cocktail concoctions at Foxglove or head down to the local farmer’s market for some delicious home-grown treats.
