Mt. Maunganui
Known as ‘The Mount' this popular town is a favourite amongst kiwi holiday makers with many of the beach front properties being second homes or baches. It is also a top surfing destination and the golden sand and safe swimming seas attract the beach goers. Located at the northern end of the beach is the mighty Mauao (Mount Maunganui). On the opposite side of Mauao is the Pilot Bay, an ideal spot for swimming and kayaking. Mauao is a sacred place that dominates the local landscape and a popular activity is to climb the summit track on a fine day, The views are outstanding with stunning 360 degree views of the Pacific Ocean and nearby islands. The Mount also has a bustling town centre with a great variety of shops and the waterfront is abundant with side walk cafes, restaurants and bars.
