Puhoi
Just 50 kilometres north of Auckland, the tranquil village of Puhoi offers a unique glimpse into New Zealand's pioneering past. Meaning "slow water" in Māori, Puhoi was uniquely settled in 1863 by a community of Bohemian immigrants (from what is now the Czech Republic), who forged a new life from the dense New Zealand bush. Their strong community spirit and rich heritage are still deeply woven into the fabric of the village today.
