Experiences that go a little deeper
G Adventures New Zealand tours are for travellers who want to do more than move from one highlight to the next. Smaller groups make it easier to slow down, connect with the people and places around you, and experience moments that feel more personal along the way.
Meaningful travel sits at the heart of the G Adventures approach. Its Community Tourism model is designed to help travel have a positive impact, supporting local communities and environmental initiatives around the world. In New Zealand, the exact experiences vary by itinerary, but may bring you closer to local culture, wildlife, landscapes and conservation stories.
Your route, accommodation, transport and key activities are organised, with an experienced tour leader there to guide the journey and bring each destination to life. Many trips also leave space for your own discoveries, whether that means heading out on a walk, adding an optional experience or taking time to explore at your own pace.
No two trips feel quite the same. Some are shaped by long days outdoors and a stronger sense of adventure, while others include more comfort, distinctive stays or additional meals and experiences. We’ll help you compare the pace and inclusions, so you can choose a journey that feels memorable for all the right reasons.

Classic tours
Classic tours capture G Adventures’ original style of small-group travel, sitting between independent travel and a fully organised coach tour. Your route, accommodation, transport and key experiences are arranged, but the itinerary still leaves room to follow your curiosity and enjoy parts of the journey in your own way. Accommodation is comfortable and practical, with a mix of hotels and locally distinctive stays depending on the trip. Some meals and activities are included, while others are left open so you can choose where to eat and how to spend your free time. You’ll visit the places you came to New Zealand to see, alongside local experiences, unexpected stops and outdoor adventures that give the journey more personality. Best for travellers who want support and companionship without feeling as though every hour of the day has been planned for them.

G Adventures Highlights of New ZealandNational Geographic Journeys
National Geographic Journeys offer a more elevated and immersive way to explore. These trips combine upgraded accommodation and comfortable transport with hands-on experiences, local expertise and storytelling that helps you understand more about the landscapes, cultures and communities you encounter. Itineraries include more activities and thoughtful inclusions than a Classic tour, with experiences designed to take you beyond the surface of each destination. You may meet people involved in local projects, gain insight from specialists or explore familiar places from a perspective you wouldn’t usually reach on your own. Each journey is led by a specially trained National Geographic Expedition Leader, who brings local knowledge and greater context to the places you visit. It’s a great choice if you want more comfort and ease, but still want your New Zealand holiday to feel curious, active and connected to the world around you.

Solo-ish tours
Solo-ish tours are created exclusively for people travelling on their own, bringing together a small group of independent travellers who are all beginning the journey in the same position. The first few days include shared experiences designed to help everyone connect naturally, so you can settle in quickly without the pressure of having to find your place in an established group. You’ll travel with a locally based female Chief Experience Officer, with an arrival transfer included to make the beginning of the trip easier. There’s also a dedicated Me Day built into the itinerary, giving you the freedom to explore alone, join an optional activity or simply slow down and enjoy some space to yourself. Accommodation is generally shared with another solo traveller, with a discounted My Own Room option available on many departures. Solo-ish tours suit travellers who want the confidence, companionship and organisation of a group journey while still keeping the independence of travelling solo.
