Auckland Airport has separate international and domestic terminals. If your tour starts in Auckland, you may be met at the airport, transferred to your hotel, or asked to make your own way into the city, depending on your itinerary and booking conditions.
Arriving from overseas
International arrivals go through passport control, baggage collection, customs and biosecurity before entering the public arrivals area. Every traveller arriving in New Zealand must complete a New Zealand Traveller Declaration before or on arrival, even if they have nothing to declare.
New Zealand has strict biosecurity rules. Food, plant material, animal products, outdoor gear and other risk items may need to be declared or inspected, so keep anything relevant easy to reach in your luggage.
Arrival processing time can vary. Long queues, several flights arriving together, baggage delays or declared items can all affect how quickly you reach the arrivals hall. If you’re meeting a tour transfer, use the flight details supplied with your booking so the local operator can plan around your arrival time.
Domestic connections
If you’re connecting to a domestic flight, allow enough time between flights. You may need to collect your bags, clear border checks, move between terminals and check in again for your domestic service.
Auckland Airport operates a free terminal transfer bus between the international and domestic terminals. There is also a signposted walkway, but the bus is easier if you have luggage or prefer not to walk.
Domestic airline baggage limits may be lower than your international allowance. Check your domestic flight details before packing, especially if your tour includes flights to Queenstown, Christchurch, Wellington or another regional airport.
Meeting transfers and starting your tour
Your documents should show whether an airport transfer is included. If it is, check the meeting point, arrival date, flight number and what to do if your flight is delayed.
If your transfer is not included, taxis, rideshare services and airport transport options are available from the terminal areas. For a first night in Auckland, staying near the city centre can be convenient if your tour departs from a central hotel the next morning.
