If you need to cancel your New Zealand tour, contact your tour consultant as soon as possible. Cancellation fees may apply depending on the timing, supplier conditions and booking terms. Any refund, credit or fee will be assessed against the conditions supplied with your confirmed booking.
Tour cancellations are time-sensitive. The closer you are to departure, the more likely it is that accommodation, transport, activities or operator fees have already become non-refundable. That’s why it’s important to raise the cancellation request as soon as you know you may not be able to travel.
How cancellation is handled
Cancellation usually needs to be made in writing, so there is a clear record of the date and request. Your consultant will check the booking conditions for your tour and any supplier terms that apply to flights, rail travel, ferries, accommodation or special activities.
Some costs may be refundable. Others may be partly refundable, held as a credit, or non-refundable. This depends on the tour style, the supplier rules and how close the cancellation is to the departure date.
If two or more people are travelling together and only one person cancels, the remaining travellers may face a price change. For example, a twin-share room may become a single room, and single supplements or revised accommodation costs may apply.
Insurance and supporting documents
Travel insurance can be important if you cancel for illness, injury, family circumstances or another covered reason. Your insurer may ask for booking conditions, invoices, receipts, cancellation confirmation and medical or other supporting documents.
Keep copies of all cancellation emails, payment receipts and supplier notices. If you think you may need to make a claim, contact your insurer early and follow their instructions before accepting any settlement or credit.
What to check before booking
Before paying a deposit, read the cancellation terms carefully. Look for the fee schedule, non-refundable components, amendment rules and final payment conditions.
Tours that include domestic flights, rail journeys, premium accommodation, cruises or special activities may have stricter cancellation conditions for those components. Your quote should identify any important supplier terms that apply.
