Arriving in Wellington
If you’re arriving on an international flight, allow time for passport control, baggage collection, customs and biosecurity checks. Travellers entering New Zealand must complete a New Zealand Traveller Declaration before or on arrival.
If you’re arriving domestically, the process is usually quicker, but baggage collection, weather delays or busy travel periods can still affect timing. Wellington is known for windy conditions, and flights can occasionally be delayed or disrupted, so avoid tight same-day arrangements where possible.

If your tour starts from a central hotel, check whether your accommodation is near the Airport Express route, a taxi stand or the tour departure point. Wellington’s city centre is compact, but hills, weather and luggage can make short distances feel less convenient after a long flight.
Domestic connections and luggage
Many travellers use Wellington Airport for domestic sectors before or after a New Zealand tour. If you’re connecting from an international arrival to a domestic flight, allow time for border processing, baggage collection and airline check-in.
Domestic luggage limits may be lower than your international allowance. Check your airline ticket before packing, especially if your tour also includes coach travel, rail travel or several one-night stops.
